Every think consists of three parts
I think that every think in the world consists of three parts.
1.Beginning
2.Middle
3.End
If midlle accurates,whole thing will accurate.If middle spoils,whole thing will spoil.

I think there is no stages like you describes, this all about your wisdom how you look your world in your point of view. Engineer has its own thoughts because he thinks everything related to his machinery and development side. As you told, its looks like a small kids who is trying to understand everything in one span of time. Try to built your self you feel, world is not enough to complete ourselves. Its all about development and new creativity....
You are right but i think beginning is most important part of thoughts.
